Extensions After Care
You have gorgeous extensions… now what? Practice these tips and protect your style!
1. Wait Before Washing
Give your extensions 48 hours before your first shampoo. This allows bonds (whether tape-in, keratin, or beaded) to fully set and prevents early slippage.
2. Brush Gently, But Often
Use a loop brush or soft-bristle extension brush:
Start at the ends and work upward.
Hold the root area to avoid tugging.
Brush 2–3 times daily to prevent tangling, especially at the nape.
3. Hydrate Without Overloading
Extensions don’t get natural oils from your scalp, so:
Use a lightweight leave-in conditioner or oil on mid-lengths and ends.
Avoid applying products near the bonds or roots.
4. Sleep Smart
Before bed:
Brush thoroughly.
Tie hair in a loose braid or ponytail.
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and frizz.
5. Wash With Care
Use sulfate-free, extension-safe shampoo and conditioner.
Tilt your head back in the shower to avoid matting at the roots.
Avoid circular scrubbing motions—keep it smooth and downward.
6. Style Safely
Heat tools are fine, but keep them away from the bonds.
Always use a heat protectant.
Avoid high heat near the roots.
7. Keep Up With Maintenance
Book your move-up or reinstallation every 6–8 weeks. This keeps your natural hair healthy and your extensions looking seamless!
